Home Improvement

If you are getting tired of the way that your kitchen looks but you don't want to spend thousands of dollars to remodel it, then you can make some changes instead. The best thing to do is reface kitchen cabinets, which sounds like it would be difficult but it actually is pretty simple. You can either go with a new look altogether or you can just update the ones that you have. Either way, it will look like you have spent a ton of money, while in reality you will have spent around $100 and taken a couple hours out of your time.

The first thing you need to do is take off the doors with a drill. The next thing you are going to do is glue plywood to the exposed sides of the cabinets. This is where the new material is going to attach. It's a simple thing to do, given that you shouldn't have many more than a couple sides. The next thing that you are going to do is cover the stiles. The stiles are the front sides of the cabinets that are covered by the doors when they are closed. You do it just like you did with the exposed sides. Next, you are going to put down the veneer. The veneers are the pieces you are getting to either change the style or update them.

After pressing down the veneer, you will officially start refacing the cabinets. This involves using a sharp razor to cut off any pieces that are hanging over the stiles. After doing this, you need to cover the rails. This will allow you to easily remove the veneer trimmings, giving your kitchen cabinets a new, professional look to them. After that, you'll essentially be done, and all you will need to do will be to hang the doors back on. Of course, if you have changed styles you will still need to attach pulls and knobs to finish the drawers.

So don't be afraid to reface kitchen cabinets. It's a lot easier than you would think, and though it can seem a little bit confusing the first time you attempt it, you'll soon get a feel for it. The best part about is the fact that you will be saving thousands of dollars on repairs. Of course, since you are taking care of your kitchen you will also be increasing the potential resale value of your home, which is always a smart decision.
